Three different concentrations of amlodipine (0.01, 0.02 and 0.03 mg/kg body weight) was administered orally to three different groups (B, C, and D) of experimental male Wistar albino rats (n = 8) for six weeks. Group A rats were fed normal diet without amlodipine (n = 8) served as the control. The administration of amlodipine significantly reduced testosterone level in the following order, group A (0.22 ± 0.01)  B (0.18 ± 0.01)  C (0.14 ± 0.01)  D (0.10 ± 0.01). The reduction in testosterone levels corresponded with an increase in the concentration of amlodipine administered to male Wistar albino rats. The observation in this study reveals that long-term treatment of male Wistar rats with calciumchannel blocker and antihypertensive (amlodipine) produces a significant reduction in the level of testosterone a hormone associated with decreased ability of men to enjoy sex and to develop good quality erections. There is the need for a large scale study to investigate the potential effect of long-term antihypertensive therapy with amlodipine on sexual dysfunction in men.

Interaction between cannabinoid receptors and inhibition of L-type calcium channel on passive avoidance learning and memory in male rats

Introduction: There is currently a debate over the interaction between Ca2+ channels and cannabinoid system on learning and memory processing. In this study, we examined the effect of acute injection of cannabinoid agonist (Win- 55212-2) (Win) or antagonist (AM251), following chronic injection of verapamil, as a L-type Ca2+ channels blocker, on passive avoidance (PA) test in male Wistar rats...

Effect of Some Calcium Channel Blockers in Experimentally Induced Diabetic Nephropathy in Rats

Diabetic nephropathy (DNP) is considered a CRD (Chronic Renal Disease); it is a major cause of illness and premature death in people with DM. The present study was designed to illustrate the role of CCBs (amlodipine and diltiazem) in prevention and treatment of DNP in rats. Eighty male albino rats weighing (130-180gm) were used in this study. These animals were subdivided into five equal groups...

Effect of nifedipine and amlodipine on dead space wound healing in rats.

Effect of two calcium channel blockers (CCBs) nifedipine and amlodipine, was studied on normal and steroid depressed wound healing in albino rats, using the dead space wound model. The drugs enhanced normal healing as evidenced by increase in tensile strength of 10 days old granulation tissue. There was neither a significant change in the hydroxyproline level (or collagen) nor a change in the g...

Investigate the effect of TRPV1 receptor antagonist (AMG9810) on stroke outcome in the permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion in male rat

Introduction: TRPV1 is a non-selective cation channel with high permeability to calcium ions, and is also involved in the development of neurogenic and inflammatory pain. The increase in intracellular calcium plays a role in worsening of stroke. In the present study we investigated the effect of (AMG9810) TRPV1 receptor antagonist on stroke outcome in the permanent middle cerebral artery occlus...
